1969 Rolex 1600... Legit?

Do you guys think this watch is legit? I bought it was a really reputable dealer but when I got home I noticed that the datewheel is slightly offset and you can see the previous number peaking through at the top. Is this something that can be fixed easily?

Looks pretty normal to me, pics are quite bad though. Taupe dial? How do the other numbers look?

I had a 1601 that similarly you could see the date above from time to time. Looks ok to me. Need to see the dial and hands in natural light. The 1600 is a lovely reference with the smooth dial.

Please get it off that pilgrim strap- it’s like wearing a Harris Tweed with Birkenstocks.

Thanks for the reply, the only numbers where I don’t see another number peaking through are the single digits.

Period correct factory bracelet, either jubilee or oyster (oyster will butch it up a bit). If you like the thrill of the hunt, find one with the correct date code for the year your DJ was produced- although a year before or after is also appropriate as the bracelets were paired with the watch out of the parts bins before being shipped out to retailers, so either the watch parts or bracelets could have sat around for a bit.
For strap- any slim unpadded strap that tapers from 20-16mm will work nicely (could even find a factory buckle). Bulang & Sons have some nice options on DJ’s in their pics if you need inspiration.

I think I’ve found it online referred to as the champagne ghost dial? Does that sound right?

Ghost dial is a real thing, it is white text on a satin dial and the text disappears at most off angles. It’s typically on light gray, anthracite, and taupe dials but not radially brushed (solei) ones.

Ghost…….Have seen it on anything with white lettering the last few years. Give an inch and Pseudo Dealers take a mile.

Never seen it on a champagne dial before. 😉

At least “ghost” is a marketing term used to describe an affect rather than an effect.
