I just had my father's circa 1966 Constellation restored by a certified Omega person. What should I reasonably expect it's time keeping accuracy to be?

Well, whether it’s been ‘restored' or just serviced, you should expect a 1966 Constellation to be perfectly accurate.

Omegas own tolerance specification for cal 55x and 56x after service is an average of 0 to +18 s/day, so somewhere in that range I suppose.

Thats non COSC tolerances. Original for chronometer is -4 to +6. Whether it still performs within that is down to condition and quality of the service.

Sure, that was true back when it was certified, but regardless of it being a chronometer or not, 0 to +18 is the current Omega tolerance after service.

Yes, exactly. Omega’s tolerances do not hold these to modern COSC...

Good to know. I wasn’t aware of that.

I sent an email to Omega asking them wear is a reasonable expectation

I'll be interested to hear what Omega will answer ! I have been told that where normally Omega would "be happy" with +0/+15" , a proper service and regulation of a Constellation could enable a good -2 /+5" in 5 positions.

I assume that is for a, more or less, contemporary watch. This one is 60 yrs old. I will let you all know if they reply.

Well my watchmaker pretends that a well-serviced 60 years old Connie is potentially capable of that, but let's see what Omega replies.

Best of luck to him/her then. Omega will most likely give the same response I did, since that's from the official Omega service guidelines.

While it's potentially possible to get a 60's Constellation to within COSC specs, it would be extremely time consuming and not remotely economical for a watchmaker to even attempt to do on a regular basis.

I do it regularly, even though it doesn't happen with every example. It really comes down to what condition the movement is in, how it has been looked after, the abilities of the watchmaker, and of course how much you want to spend.

Well this is exactly what my watchmaker told me the other day. Another point is whether it makes sense to search for a COSC performance on a 60 yrs old watch; probably useless to the eyes of the majority, but I would personally try if the watch has the potential, mainly because such iconic models simply deserve it.
