    Hi everyone,

I have been lurking on this site for a while and am an admirer of vintage Omegas, though I do not own any yet. I was hoping you could help this newb out. I have come across a vintage Omega that looks to be in pretty good shape but I can't tell whether it is a redial or frankenwatch or anything else.

The linen dial looks really nice from the pics and is listed as an "original, unrefinished dial." I don't know if the hands or crown are original. The crown is just listed as an Omega crown so I assume it is not original. And how does the movement look? The listing says that it is a caliber 550 and was just recently serviced this year.

And how does the case look? It obviously has an engraving but anything else I should be concerned about? 44F17941-C294-433E-B784-DFD30AE1AB94.jpg B3C6473C-B978-4A54-ABFD-0F69AA747476.jpg 26C18BBC-D188-499D-945C-46B2F0887CA9.jpg 6267339C-9572-4399-80F3-221AC9B721D0.jpg E21252BD-5172-409C-9048-23E57F50FBF2.jpg

It is listed for approximately $550US.

Your thoughts about the watch would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

This is my listing - the crown is an omega marked replacement crown. I believe the alpha style hands are original but I welcome opinions from other members. Also, as noted in the listing, the photo of the movement was taken prior to the service.

I would say the alpha hands are correct and original.

Sorry man. Didn't know you posted on this site. I wasn't trying to put you under a microscope or anything - just want to do my due diligence since my knowledge is quite limited.

No need to apologize for putting the watch under a microscope, OF is a delightfully honest/brutal place ;), you are using it as one should . I love these service watches, and the history of the older engraved pieces. This is a nice looking piece. Keep asking questions

Not seen the listing but one thing that should be considered is that this is a domestic US made case, not Swiss, hence the Ross marking. This tallies with the 550 movement which was a US market version to avoid tariffs on high jewel count movements. Am not at all saying this is a bad thing, but it is a thing. It’s analogous with the UK market Dennison cased models.
