Hi everyone, just recently got into vintage as I've had a modern planet ocean that I sold. Below are two examples that I am currently looking to purchase, please share any insights on both. The first comes with box and papers and 6 month insurance and later goes for a year, both are between 1500-1900 $ Greatly appreciate your advises. Hope everyone a great memorial weekend!!

Probably not a particularly helpful answer but I only respond because I’m currently wearing a 168.017 on a strap almost identical to the first one you post.

There are lots of these options around and at a variety of prices (I just looked on Chrono24) and for the prices you quote, I’d expect to see the watch on a brick bracelet ….

My preference is date only but that may not be your preference.

The photos are, from my perspective, too poor to give me any real insight on condition of the dial, case, case back or movement and, you make no mention of the service history. I’m not sure, without knowing more about the watch or seller what, if any, is the value of the ‘insurance’ but others may comment.

That said, the Genta C case Connies are great wearers.

One of the OF members, @kaplan has a good collection and posted recently that he’s reducing his collection so it may be worth your while sending him a message by clicking on the envelope in the top right corner above to see if he has anything that might interest you.

Thank you so much for your reply @Spruce, and yes the quality of photos are not great, I too, like the date only option but I guess it is what it is, I try to avoid chrono and ebay due to the lack of warrenty, I am leaning toward the second option as the seller serviced it in house back in March and it comes with one year warranty although the crown is not original for 1500. The first option looked cleaner and comes with box and papers but sold by a clothing store with 6 month warrenty and stated that it was inspected and insured by a third party for 1900, my thoughts are it was heavely buffed and cleaned.

There are so many out there and, at the prices you quote, they’re not bargains and I wouldn’t rush …

IMHO neither of those are worth anywhere near their asking prices. You can do a lot better. A warranty is only as good as the company providing it and if they’re selling lousy examples chances are high their service isn’t great either. You can do much better.

Please take some time (a lot of time) and read the Learn How to Fish thread here before you buy anything.

Don't know about the US market for C-Cases but at least in Germany they are offered quite often and I would not pay more than 1000€/$

I wouldn’t be rushing to buy from a dealer because of their warranty. Vintage watch dealer warranties often aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Much better to save money, buy from a private seller and have it serviced yourself if it needs it.

Thank you all for the valuable input, have you all experienced additional custom fees when it comes to purchasing from outside of the US? Japan or Europe as an example?

I’m in the UK but have experienced customs fees. Generally speaking it’s invoiced by the carrier but, of course, it depends on the price and location.

Good afternoon, can I get you guys to weigh in this ebay offering: https://ebay.us/m/QjfbMR
Per seller dial looked to be in original state!
Better to post photos - links disappear, and possibly start a new thread. OF members can then give you a view on the actual watch

That said, I’d be wary of a watch where the seller gives no useful details about condition, or service history and is asking for USD 1,914.00 (which is a pretty weird BIN price given that the seller is in Oviedo, Florida).

Hey @Spruce, you are absolutely right, I have contacted the seller asking for service records twice and avoided answering me everytime. Its definitely a pass for me!

Yes. There are customs duties on watches. If you are asking about additional tariff duties due to current policies, you would probably need to start a new thread to ask your questions. Hi-jacking another thread doesn't usually get a lot of attention.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the seller didn’t have the watch.
