·Hi!
New member, long time reader. A big fan of 40's and 50's Omegas, I have found a lot of great information on these pages. Now I need some help from the experts..
My latest acquisition is this ref. 2636 in solid 14k gold. It puzzles me as I have not seen others like it. The ref. 2636 is normally either SS or gold capped. This one is solid gold in case, lugs, lid and all. It has a caliber 342 bumper movement that dates it to 1951.
Most of the gold watches also had case serial numbers, as does this. Is there a list or someone with knowledge of these gold case serial numbers?
As can be seen in the picture of the lid it says 2636 but without a sub digit. It also looks like the last digit was restamped from a 5 to a 6 in the production. Could be that it was meant to be a 2635 but turned a 2636 when it got the sub-second 342 movement.
Any tips, information or opinions of great interest ☺️
