Not sure I agree with this statement. I've seen plenty of original dials with small imperfections. From Omega and other manufacturers as well. These were made by contractors and some with slightly better than others.

How anyone can make a judgment without having it in your hand with a loupe is beyond me.

Hey Gents - Hoping to bring this thread back to life with a find similar to the original poster. I was cleaning out some boxes in the attic of a very old (200 year old) house we recently moved into, and came across this gem. All the script save for “OMEGA” under the 12 and “SWISS MADE” at the bottom edge of the dial is above the 6 o’clock position. It all seems original, has a bit of wear here and there. Completely plain caseback with an interesting Speidel band that seems to have adjustment gears of some sort. Any thoughts?

That looks good to me. I think you have a 354 in a 2767 case. Look again at the back; the word Waterproof is visible in your photo and you should see Seamaster on the opposite side.

Thank you Edward53! Yes, I’m awful with the camera but it does say “SEAMASTER” on the slanted edge of the caseback inside a block border opposite the “WATERPROOF”.

Any ideas on age and if the band is original? I’m not sure what the gears on the strap are for. I’ve no idea how valuable something like this is - I’m a bit of a newbie to watches. I do think it’s uniquely aesthetically pleasing though.

A very nice thing to find in your house and well worth getting properly serviced by an independent watchmaker (do NOT send it to Omega - the reasons for this have been gone into dozens of times on here). It would probably cost c. £150-200 to service it but it is worth it, and it should not be worn unserviced as that will grind and damage the dried-out internals. Date is probably mid 50s. I have a 2767-5 (see below) with a similar cream dial but different font and dial configuration. I think yours is another variant of the same watch. Mine is from about 1955 according to the movement serial number.

The Speidel band is not original. You could consider replacing it either with a BOR (beads of rice) bracelet or a good quality leather strap. IMO a realistic value for your watch is about £600. It looks all original and in good condition, and those early Seamaster chronometers are quite scarce and very collectable.

I love how Omega doesn't skimp on the gold on these Seamasters with the screw on backs. That's my gripe with many gold watches, too dainty.
