This is a tricky one to advertise – nice to wear, hard to photograph. I’ll try my best, but the reflections of both gold-filled case and the dark black dial are too much for my very limited photography skills.

It’s a 1950s Seamaster GX6250, or, to put it simply, the US equivalent of the more common 2846. Very similar style, but a few differences:

-17 jewel cal. 500 instead of the 501 found in 2846s
-cases were 14k gold-filled. This had the welcome side effect that also the caseback is gold-colored, not steel. It’s also marked “14K GF” instead of “Seamaster”.
-OXG mark on the movement
-Swiss instead of Swiss Made on the dial
-17.5mm lug width instead of 18mm
-as far as I know, the two different fonts on the dial were also exclusively found on the US collection examples

The Watch

Omega Seamaster
Reference: GX6250
Movement: cal. 500
Serial: 14660836
Year: 1955
Case: ~34.5mm, 14k gold-filled
Dial: original, matt black dial, not restored or tempered with in any way
Strap: Hand-made Italian maroon leather

Condition

Very attractive, yet used, all-original watch.

Dial & Hands: Completely original black dial with a matt finish, all the text is fully there. Slight and even patina. Yellow-gold indices and hands, all non-luminous – no radium whatsoever. The hands do show some discoloration, which I did not have cleaned. I’d expect this to be removable with a gold cloth but cannot guarantee so. Personally, I found it charming.

Case: Original 34.5mm 14k gold-filled case in used condition. There are a few tiny dents and scratches all around, corresponding to age. It has seen polishing before, especially on the lugs, the bevel around the bezel is fully there, though. Do note that these did not have the beveled lugs found on 2846s from the factory. The caseback shows minimal pitting, the “14K GF” text is fully there.

Crown: Original Omega crown, correct style with period-correct flat feet logo, as it should be.

Crystal: Original Omega plexi, some minor scratches but overall in good shape.

Movement: Original cal. 500 automatic, correct for the reference. The movement is very clean, sets, winds and runs beautifully. Service history is unknown, though.

Strap: As depicted, a maroon, Italian hand-made strap with a gold-plated, generic buckle, matching the watch.

Seller Reviews

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:

Please ignore the loosely attached caseback on the following pictures. I was in a hurry to make the best of the light.

Given the number of black redials for crazy money posted for advice here almost every day, it‘s surprising this original black dial Omega for a fair price from a trusted seller is still sitting here unsold ::confused2::.
