Good evening everybody,

another 50s Seamaster has to go on my way to fund the recent arrival of my birthyear Speedy. It’s one my SO liked to wear and call it “Goldie”, a nickname earned by the patina.

It’s a classic 2846, gold-capped with a very even, gold patina on the whole dial.

Condition

This is a well-worn, original and honest example.

Dial & Hands: Fully original dial, aged evenly in a gold tone. Hands are in very good shape and have attractively aged light brown lume. All the writing is fully there, including coathanger-S Seamaster and Swiss Made.

Case: Original 34,5mm gold-capped in used condition. Small scratches/imperfections all-around, but nothing that stands out, possibly with the small exception of some small but deeper scratches on the back of some of the lugs. It has seen polishing before, gold-cap is fully intact though and chamfers on the lugs still visible. There are traces from failed opening attempts, as these unfortunately have so often. Seamaster and Waterproof writing on the caseback still legible, it’s also signed “E.H. 16.06.1961”, so I always told myself Edmund Hillary must’ve bought it after the Hillary-coast in Antarctica was named after him (just for caution: I’m not serious about this 😁 ).

Crown: Original Omega crown in the right clover style for the reference and the correct flat foot logo. It’s gold-cap has worn off at the top, which makes be believe it might very well be the original one. Should you wish to replace it by an identical NOS example, I can offer one.

Crystal: Shows some scratches, no cracks though. It has the rather flat profile, like the originals, but I can't see an etched Omega logo so let's assume it's a generic replacement, albeit an attractive one.

Movement: Original cal. 501, correct for the reference. It sets and winds smoothly and runs really well, service history is unknown, though. Given how smoothly it works and it’s clean state in combination with a regulator that’s pretty centric I assume this has seen a service in the not too distant past, but I want to emphasize that I have absolutely no proof to back this up – it’s just a feeling, derived from how it feels. So as usual, I’d recommend a service prior to regular use.

Strap: Comes on the depicted cognac Rochet Dakota strap, brand-new. Other options available upon request.

Seller Reviews

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:
