1950’s Constellation with incorrect hands??

Hi all

Hope you are all well - this is my first post here and I look forward to learning from you all in the future 😀. If anybody could give me any pointers on my first potential vintage buy, I’d be very grateful.

I’ve spent a few hours doing independent research on this and, from what I can tell, the hands of this watch are not original (given the length of the minute hand, the lume on hands but not hour markers etc.).

This is a gold-capped watch with a bumper movement.

Thanks so much - any help at all is greatly appreciated 😀
Tom

Hi and welcome to OF. I'll wait for our real Constellation experts to weigh in, but from my perspective this watch has a lot of issues, not the least of which is that it has a refinished dial. The "Constellation" text is much too dark/bold and the font is wrong. You need to hang around and learn more before making your first vintage purchase, but you've already done one thing right and that was to check here before makiing a purchase.

Welcome @Tomega3861
Wrong hands for where the minute haches are currently situated.
Cleaned and repainted dial.
Polished case.
Wrong medallion on case back.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, all. Your expertise and advice is greatly appreciated (and has also saved me losing some £££s!).

Thanks all again, I owe you a beer if we ever meet in person!

Tom,

Look up Desmond's article on evaluating vintage Constellations. I don't have the link handy, but someone on OF probably does or you can search for it. I think that you'll find it helpful.

Appears that a Sharpie was used in this attempt to deceive.
