·Happy Sunday everybody,
I’m parting with one of the early Seamasters - a 2576 that, judging by the serial, should be from late 1949. The Seamaster was introduced in 1948 with the references 2576 and 2577. Note that the earliest examples don’t carry the Seamaster name on the dial, a feature that was introduced in 1950.
The Watch
Omega Seamaster
Reference: 2576
Movement: cal. 342 bumper automatic
Serial: 11925117
Year: 1949
Case: 34,5mm in 14k solid gold
Dial: original silver-white-champagne dial, sub second, gilt 12-3-9 numerals, applied Omega logo
Strap: cognac-colored, genuine crocodile, new. Happy to offer alternatives should you prefer something else.
Condition
Overall, this is an honest, beautiful example of the very beginning of the Seamaster-era:
Dial & Hands: Original silver-white-champagne dial in good condition. Some few, minute spots or discoloration or dirt / lume residue, which I only really noticed when I zoomed in on the pictures. Very appealing condition, even more so on the wrist. Swiss Made writing was a bit difficult to display in the pictures, as the plexi distorts the view right there, but it’s fully present. Lume in the hands has turned black, contrasting the gold nicely.
Case: Original 34,5mm 14k solid gold case in good condition. Very minimal scratches all around, a few deeper ones on the case back from failed opening attempts, one on the back of a lug and one on the bezel at 1. I have left them as they are, as the party piece of this case is the uncommon sharpness. The bevel on the bezel is fully there, the edges on the lugs perfectly sharp, it’s incredible after over 70 years. Hallmarks present at the side of the case, the back of a lug and inside the case back.
Crown: Original Omega crown in the right clover style for the ref and the correct flat foot logo.
Crystal: Replacement crystal, some small scratches but no cracks / nothing major.
Movement: Original cal. 342 in very clean condition. Sets and winds smoothly and runs well, service history is unknown though. Marks in the case back indicate possible services in the past.
Strap: Comes on the new, cognac-colored genuine crocodile strap, as depicted. I should have a few other colors/straps, should you wish for something else.
