1944 Steel Omega Seamaster Manual British Military?

Hello, my first time posting here. I'm looking for some help with this vintage Omega. I'm looking to find out the details of the watch before I attempt at selling it so I can do an accurate listing. Also any help with approximate value. It appears to me that the dial has like been re-done at some point? From my research the serial number indicates 1944 while the seamaster didn't come out until 1948? Also appears to be missing the tabbed metal insert that would go around the movement. Would this be considered a British military watch because of the markings on the case back? Any info appreciated thank you all.

Just an oddball Franken watch.

the caseback looks to be a skimmed WWW aka Dirty Dozen. Dial is wrong.

That's kind of what I figured. It's like wrong dial, wrong crown, wrong

Skimmed back meaning the military markings were removed from the back at some point? Also the dial would be a later seamaster dial stuck on or a later dial that had also been reprinted poorly and is just completely wrong? I see the way the A on Omega is all jacked up and the seamaster isn't cleanly printer either.

Yes, the military markings were removed from the outer case-back and the dial is poorly repainted.

Thank you. So what do I do with it? Are we at chuck it in the bin value or a few hundred for parts or what?

The value is in the parts, such as it is. The movement looks a bit tired, but it's a 30T2 and people need parts.

I guess you could also source a Dirty Dozen dial and hands and then you’d have a WWW Omega with a skimmed caseback.

the dials and hands can be found but they aren’t cheap. Where are you based?

If the OP is considering this, he should also know that the lugs have been drilled out to replace the fixed bars with spring-bars.

Good to know thank you. I think this watch has been a project watch for some time now, I'm definitely not going to be the right custodian for it. I'm based in California. I'm mostly a jewelry dealer and I run in to some watches occasionally. Usually I can figure out enough, but I suspected this one had been frankensteined quite a bit so it had me stumped. Thanks

I would definetely put it in an open eBay auction and describe it as well as I could. IMO the most valuable parts are missing (hands and dial replaced) or ruined (drilled lugs and skimmed caseback), but some will need period correct movement parts or non-collector grade case parts.

It’s the kind of thing I’d buy at the right price, and I’m sure that there are others like me, so there’s definitely a market for it. It’s a real shame the back has been skimmed though as a correct and all original Omega back would be worth a fair amount (I’d buy one to replace my back with horrible scissor marks all over it) 🤬

As it is the value will be capped somewhat as even with a good dial and hands you’d be left with a butchered mid-case and a skimmed back. As others suggested just list it on eBay and describe as best as you can, or sell it to me 😁
