1943 omega 6b/159 case markings

Hello,
I have a Air ministry 1943 Omega 6b/159. I’m trying to make sense the four numbers in front of the ‘43.
i.e. 8882/43
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in your case 8882 will be the total number of issued military watches in 1943, before your watch was marked in 1943. from any maker. total issue numbers for 1943 will be different till the end of the year, 1943 in this case. kind regards. achim

Exactly that - and the principle was still in practice 25 years later, as my Smiths 6B shows:
