Here we have a solid 14k gold Gruen 17 jewel, Veri-thin from about the late 1940's (I'm guessing, based on the style). It's very clean, and ready to wear. The movement keeps excellent time, I do no know the service history, although it's about as clean as can be. Everything looks original on this watch, except the strap I put on, but it is a new old stock strap with matching gold plated buckle. The crystal is super thick and curved. Lug width is 16mm, and the dimensions of the watch are shown on the caliper in the last two photos. I'm asking only $350 for this, which is probably close to it's gold value, hoping for a quick sale. Ask me anything, and check my references. Thanks for looking.
Matt

Well, aren't you the hero.
A shame there's no appreciation for much of these gold watches. This is why they're being melted. Posted over 2 years ago, and not even one nibble. This one went to a fellow collector for scrap price, not scrapped. But it's not about the money, or is it? Not bitter, just making a valid point here. A lot of vintage gold watches are being melted right now.

I think you went to the trouble to create a thread just to " rub our noses in it" because it didn't sell as you thought it should. Otherwise, why would you feel compelled to pointedly inform the Forum of your actions.

How does the thread help the Forum?

Was it Aesop who related the fable of the fox and the "sour" grapes?

Yeah, that too. I mean, can't we have a little fun here, or are we that dense?

I know that I am not dense. I love to have fun too, joke, kid around, and even to participate in gentle chiding banter back and forth, but not at our Forum members' expense.

Sorry, I would have also marked it as sold, along with the snarky comment. But this is the error I got, on every computer and browser.

Its a shame to see a watch go to a scrapper, but Im not shocked that it wasn't worth very much. That style of watch isn't particularly popular these days unfortunately, particularly that small. And sadly, the Gruen name isn't worth what it once was, particularly with that dial.

You are exactly right.

Might be worth starting a general discussion thread, fellows, before all of these bumps get deleted by the mods.

It's cool. My local buddy, who is also a Forum member bought it from me. Maybe he'll chime in. Gold is a commodity. It changes from day to day.

Let’s remember all the work our friends from OZ put into this forum to make it best in class. A little satire from one of our senior members in the sales section is welcome.

It is a great thread, and worth keeping there for entertainment.
