Hi there, I am being offered the following watch: per se the watch seems to check out ok, ... serial number dates the cal 491 to 1957. Didnt find any info on the model number 0763. what do you think? ... crown obv. not original, how about the inside of the caseback? redial? any thoughts welcome, thx, Al
watch looks fine. The only issues I can find: 1) it has a case from local US production, not from Switzerland 2) crown is worn through - needs replacement.
Definitely not US national production. Not Swiss either. No clue as to where that case was made, but looks European to me. Spain perhaps? gatorcpa
Yes. It was required by law at the time to have the words (in English) "xx K(arat) Gold" on the outside of US made watch cases. I don't think the "18K/0,750" markings inside the case would satisfy those US made requirements. On imported watch cases, I don't think it was necessary to stamp the outside of the cases, provided that they were properly declared for customs and met the hallmarking laws of the country in which they were produced. If anyone else has additional information, I'd love to see it. The above is just a recollection of an article I read several years ago. As I get older, the memory starts fading.... gatorcpa
