Does anyone know the weight of the case and Caseback on a 2853 Connie? Is the dial solid gold also? In other words, does anyone know total gold weight of this reference? Head only. Thanks

I don’t know the weight but a Constellation ref 2853 is a DeLuxe model so the dial should indeed be gold.

I would be interested to know why you want this. We shouldn’t encourage the scrapping of Connies on here...

It's a bit of a leap to just assume that the OP is trying to see whether or not it would make sense to scrap a connie.

Some dealers will weigh an entire watch if it is hallmarked as gold, and will factor in that weight when creating a sale price. If OF members know more about how much gold is actually in a connie case, then it enables us to try and negotiate to save some hard-earned money.
Even if a dealer left out the movement and crystal in weight calculations, knowing whether or not a dial/hand set should or shouldn't be gold can help members negotiate a fairer price.

Knowing such information helps to benefit the community as a whole, and lets us all further our appreciation of watches like the Constellation.

It would probably be more helpful to determine the precise weight of movements. So, at least with Deluxe Connies, you could subtract that from the overall weight of the watch head and have a pretty accurate idea of the gold weight. The crystal doesn’t count for much.

I would argue that your suggestion is just as big a leap as mine, if not more so. I am not saying that case weights should not be discussed, just that the information can be used for fairly brutal purposes so I don't think it unreasonable to ask the reason why it is wanted.

Very true, and most exemplary are the hyped vintage markets where watches are also categorized as vintage gold jewelry. Often the value of a watch gets inflated by clueless buyers specifically or only because of the (mis)calculated weight of the gold, not at all for the value of the timepiece.
As soon as it's categorized as vintage jewelry (or by a brand name jewelry maker, precious stone bezel, etc) another door to a whole different consumer market opens. 🙁

OP - Are you trying to figure out how much gold has been removed through polishing on you case?

No—I’ve been told by members here that my watch looks like a ‘melted ice cube’, so obviously the case won’t do anyone much good.

+/- 30 g. for the case.
The whole case.
Dial should be 4 max. 5 g. of gold.
IIRC the weight of 500 series movements is about 18g.
Thanks for that.
My OT 2954 (=Deluxe with 504 movement) head weighs 46.88g. Take away 18g for the movement and you alre left with 28.88g. Including dial (18k), hands and crown (both probably not 18k), and crystal.
