That’s obviously a cool little experiment. But now to the important question: why do you think they picked a 1861 model instead of one of the new ones?

Most likely: they didn't know or care about the difference.
Perhaps unlikely: 1861 more closely resembles the movement that went to the moon compared to the 3861.

Maybe a better question is: Did this watch actually go to space? Simply saying it went to space doesn't make it so.

I can't think of any organization's definition of Space being as low as 36km in altitude.

I think the whole thing is a bit tongue-in-cheek anyway. And I believe they specifically say “near space” in the video.
