IMHO... as always... being a collector of Rolex for many years... I had almost all vintage one considered "normal" ones, no 6538 or Paul Newmans... but from 5513 up quite all... for me in the range of the late 70 begins of 80 the recommendation will be the 16660 and 16800 with mate dial... have a very attractive looking and I think that are still going up in price... of course all depends of the price asked... but if you want a nice sapphire one... that is the call!

You bet, every variation gets you money in rolex. Stick dial vs roman, Ft first, meter first, blue berry bezel its all got a price to collectors. Took awhile to find a 16570 with no engraved rehaut but 3186 mvmt

I think the GMT16750 and Submariner 16800 (both earlier matte dial versions) are still screaming values on the vintage Rolex market.

My favorite transitional Rolex is the matte dial 16750. Plexi with the exact same external dimensions with as the 1675 but with a high beat movement. But I don't know if it can be considered a bargain anymore.

Agreed. Perhaps it's necessary to add this: Relative to the the soaring prices of older vintage Rolex sports watches, the transitional 16800 and 16750 can be seen as "bargains."

I was drawn to this one by its strong case but there are certainly some that have developed a beautiful patina. With its triplock crown and sapphire crystal it makes the best no stress wearer in the water too.
