168.027 Constellation Sanity Check

Hi all,

I've been patiently waiting for a good example of the 168.027 Constellation to come up for sale for some time. This model is the rare combination of the linen dial and coin edge bezel, with a 564 movement. There's one up for sale right now that's caught my eye, but I'm not completely sold.

Here's my assessment:

- Dial, hands, case back and crown all appear authentic.
- Indices and hands match (obsidian with no lume).
- Printing looks correctly aligned, but slightly strange. I can't tell is this is because of the linen dial, or repainting.
- Case is where I'm less confident. Polished edges appear to be gone, and brushing on the lower right lug looks rough.
- Date wheel is slightly misaligned?
- Crystal appears to be in good condition, but hard to see if the Omega symbol is present.
- Would need to see the movement, but the selling indicates a service in 2018.
- Bracelet looks okay, but my knowledge is lacking on that front.

I would deeply appreciate a second opinion or two on this piece. They don't come up for sale very often (outside of some crazy stuff on eBay), so I figure it's worth double-checking with the experts.

Thanks!

Spot-on analysis, IMO. Especially seeing that the date wheel is misaligned calls the quality of the service into question.

As you note, there are some issues with the case finish - it has been refinished with a coarser grain of sanding for the matte areas and the facets need to be sharper; a quality refinisher would be able to correct this in no time I'd say.

A small point is that the markers are not onyx on these, but painted metal. No big issue, just wanted to clarify 馃榾

Thanks very much @ConElPueblo. I had forgotten that indices are painted. I was more concerned with the style/colour/lume matching with the hands.

Good exercise in testing my eyes for this sort of thing. My instincts were right, will keep hunting.
