Hi guys,

Happened upon this 1675 through a friend. Just wondering what everyone thought about it? Probably my only really chance to get a gilt gmt at a reasonable price, as he wants to do a trade for my more modern gmt + cash

Dial looks ok, can't see damage on it - all of it looks to be on the crystal. But I think it should have a small gmt hand?

Seller says he has the original insert, but was in storage so need to confirmed.

What are your thoughts on the case? (please excuse the average photos) it looks polished? - again not too familiar with vintage GMTs as I know they are a little thinner.

Also what value would you place on an example like this?

Thanks!
Ed

Can't really speak about the rest of the watch, but that case has definitely seen some thorough polishing.

Dial looks ok and interesting. The most important part.
Bezel is nice early model for PCG.
The original insert is also very important.
The 24 h is easy to find.
The case is ok, not fantastic.
Crown looks original.
The lume should glow for some seconds in total darkness.

Lume glowed under UV light. I'm hoping the original insert can be included too!

The hands have been replaced along with the insert and as has been mentioned the dial looks to be ok.

I'll pass on the case. I had a 1675 with a weak case and it wasn't great.

Service parts, overpolished case and unattractive lume. I'd wait for a nice one to come along.

Thanks for the feedback guys 😀 - really appreciate it.

Other than the GMT hand, what is the difference between original hands and service ?

I see the biggest down side as the over polished case, is this saveable or is that a deal breaker for you? As the original insert may be available with it.

The deal breaker for me is the dial, the lume plots look dirty and uneven. The insert was probably changed for a reason, I doubt that the original one would be in decent condition. Other that the small GMT hand i think the other hands are the same.

Thanks for the advice mate, I guess I got a bit excited when I saw it - but good to re-look and get some pertinent advice 😀

Nice dial, must check the condition of the original insert, but poor and heavy polishing on case, visible especially on lugs.
I'm not 100% about the hours/minutes hands - are they replacement?
What is the asked price (or value, basing on the trade), if I can ask?

Trade value would be a 16710 + ~10k aud

Gmt is 1995 coke, with a luminova service dial. Condition is good to very good.

Personally I love it the way it is, polish the crystal and wear the heck out of it... If you don't take it and he wants to sell it please let me know as I would be interested... You have to expect some bumps and bruises I assume the piece is from the late 60's or 70's... A nice vintage GMT wear it in good health... Trade for the coke, absolutely...

I'll see if he has the original insert, and if it is wearable. But am leaning towards the 1675 - I 'think'

I'd say definitely a no go. If you want a gilt GMT, hold out for quality. You can never get back the metal on the lugs, which have been significantly polished, the lume is dirty and not attractive, the handset is replaced, it doesn't have a bracelet, and you have no clue if the original bezel is a trashed or not even if it is available. I can't tell if the gloss has any imperfections or not but that would significantly affect value too.

I'm not saying that you should only buy mint/NOS watches but a watch like this, with a lot of imperfections and that doesn't 'pop,' would leave me looking for something with attractive lume (at least) - and on top of this would be hard to sell when I chose to upgrade to a better example. I think your friend is trying to offload a piece with a lot of issues for cash and a later watch with no issues - would be a great deal for him but not for you.

You have to expect some bumps and bruises I assume the piece is from the late 60's or 70's...

The watch has a mid 60's dial so it should match up to these characteristics: https://gmtmaster1675.com/type-c/ . Also, bumps/bruises are different from replaced parts and over polishing.

I can point you to some dealers (maybe even one here on the forums 😲) who would disagree...

Big ole pass.

Case blows...

Correct hands are not an easy fix.

Dial...good shape, but lume patina is mediocre at best, and that is so important.

While my dial isn’t the best, the strong case, puffy lume with strong patina, and good insert make it a great wearing watch.

Wait for a good one.

I would pass on this one. There just isn't any single thing good enough about it to tempt me. Very weak case, unattractive lume plots, service hands. Not even tempted.
