Would a caseback with serial iii.70 be period-appropriate for a 1675 with serial 3,100,xxx?

I'll give the opposite opinion. The caseback seems a bit too early for my comfort level. @leefowler's is more plausible.

If you want to do some research to make a more informed opinion, go through the HQ Milton archives and make a spreadsheet of the serial numbers from that general era and the case-back dates. I imagine you can easily gather dozens of examples.

Thanks, got a very informative spreadsheet from Springer on rolexforums. He is a wealth of knowledge.

Nobody knows more about GMT-Masters than Springer IMO. I once found a chart with a scatter plot of serial numbers vs. case-back stamps (for Rolex in general, not just GMTs), but I failed to bookmark or save it, and I can't locate it any more.
