Yes. Do some searching in this forum. Several members own or have owned this model. https://omegaforums.net/threads/1950s-14k-omega-seamaster-pie-pan.26253/ It has a 14K case for North American market with 18K dial. Odd, but correct. gatorcpa
At one point, NJ/NY was the center of the universe for Seamaster Pie Pans. However, the balance of power is shifting to Australia due to the efforts of one enterprising young forum owner. Oh, so now you've come around, eh?
The first few examples of these had longer hands than we're used to seeing on pie pans. Nobody is 100% sure if they're the shorter versions that go to the edges of the pie pan, or the longer ones that bend and go over the markers. We did have some fun with it though. Ash / @dsio was going to have t-shirts made that said "Hoi was wrong, the hands are long!". Wish I could find that post......
Sure those short hands are correct BUT to those who own ones with long hands they try to think differently.
So no one is 100% sure which hands are correct for this model? Is there a possibility that both hands can be correct?
For this reference short hands are always correct, nobody has ever stated a 2849 piepan should have long hands.
Nobody has said that they shouldn't either. This is one of those situations where either one is acceptable. Just so long as the hands are solid gold. gatorcpa
The 2849 piepan shouldn't have long hands, only short, its the 2757 and 2627 that are questionable as all that have been found "as is" have been long so far, all date at three piepans have had short hands.
Ah, that's the one with the long hands. I have some theories as to why, but no backup, so I won't share them yet. gatorcpa
My theory was just that the watches the dials went on were a batch of dome dial 14K watches (with long hands) that had their dials swapped to piepans without the appropriate shorter hands being added by the factory. Just a theory though as Omega's details on the watches are slim, and they have no record on the extracts of the actual dial details. They weren't all shipped to one place either, as one of mine is Mexico in the extract and the other is "French Colonies" which is most likely Africa or Asia, possibly even Vietnam as the 2627 was delivered about a year before they presented the French with their eviction notice. The trouble with narrowing it down is that the French were being booted out of so many countries in the 20th century that its quite a big list.
The problem with that theory is that the hands are bent just right to turn over the edges of the pie pan. They wouldn't be bent like that if they came straight off a dome dial - unless somebody is really good with pliers.
