Hello all,

As some will have seen in my previous posts I am on the hunt for a 14900/167.005 pie pan (no date). Over this period I have learnt and built up knowledge. I have done this also by speaking to a few people about theirs, and @seekingseaquest (who I’ve bought a Seamaster off) has one. He’s given me permission to make a thread about it, because I think it’s quite an interesting case, and I’d be interested to hear some more opinions on it.

It is a very clean example with a sharp case and great dial (one or two specks of debris). However, the thing that sticks out is that the officially certified text appears to have been added separately to the ‘Automatic Chronometer’ text above it. Looking closely, it appears very slightly fainter, and the Cs appear slightly different to the C of Constellation. As well as this the second of the two Ls appears slightly smaller.

@seekingseaquest’s opinion is that as this watch is a 14900 it dates from a period when some did and some didn’t have the officially certified text on the dial. As a result it may have been added retrospectively based on a decision to add this text to all watches from a certain point forward.

We are interested to hear of what people’s thoughts on this are; have you seen this before, etc.

Some pics below, and there’ll be some macros shortly too:

Are you being offered this watch? If you are... buy it already!

Not sure what yet another thread on this topic is going to achieve. It's hard to imagine that watch being anything other than legit.

I hadn’t found any other threads. Apologies if this clogs up the thread list.

Well, this all seems to settle it! @Olhenry56, I’d be interested if you could link to some of the other threads if you have time?
