    Oh man, that's two days after the day I was born! Closest one I've seen yet. What is really interesting though is that my serial number is after this one - 3626. The previous September produced extract I've seen, which was from the 11th of September if I recall correctly, was about 1500 serial numbers after mine. Really does go to show you that these aren't consecutive.

    One about to go on eBay, and again I find myself wanting to bid because it has a beautiful dial:
    [IMG]

    Serial 39.18m.

    Major apologies to anyone who is indeed bidding if I've blown up your spot, but I think it needs to be documented since it'll probably go to a non-member.

    This is an apt post for me, thank you, as 30 years ago I bought what I was told at the time was a 1969 Speedmaster from a dealer here in Melbourne. Never opened the back. I bought it over a new one because it was way, way cheaper and I honestly preferred the slightly faded dial and, let's face it, liked the 69 connection. Today at my watchmaker I had him open it and it is actually an ST 76. Does not bother me particularly but am amazed after all these years and quite a few services I never knew what year this actually was!.
    Anyway for this thread serial is 39923148 which is what made me get the case opened because on the service receipt it was listed as a 69 ST and with me getting more interested in Speedmasters and looking at serials I realised that could not be right. For 69. So for the last 30 years I have been 7 years out!.
    Photos below. Hands are tritium but service, the originals, which I have, are over painted to the point it was not worth keeping them on the watch. Dial is original. Still probably my favourite watch, the first "proper" watch I bought and I have the original 1175 bracelet, which sat in a drawer for many years after Omega/Swatch replaced it with a 1171/1 in the early 90s. At least they gave it back.
    Cheers.
    Tony

    That's the correct dial, a non-step open S.

    @Tonyash

    Your is in with a note about a possible replacement dial. But does 100% fall in line with an expected C3 tall S dial.

    @larryganz

    I’m sorry but I’m 99% sure yours had it’s caseback swapped at some point. It’s a correct -74 -76 short S C2 dial but the serial shows a -76. I’ve got a watch 100 away with a Sept 76 production date recorded.

    The author of Moonwatch Only assures me that with Omega's "parts bin mentality" that it very well could have come with the -74 caseback in October 1976 (Oct 16th per my extract). He then sold me a signed copy of his book at my request :taunt:

    I should probably finish reading it...

    There’s a lot of detail in that book. I find that I don’t retain a lot of it until it suddenly becomes important, due to one watch or another, and hopefully before it’s too late. But not always.

    I think a late-production -74 could very well have been produced in 1976. Given that it fits the correct parts spec from the era (i.e. correct dial) I wouldn't worry about it

    This -74 with a stepped dial and extract from Feb 1973 is up for sale elsewhere at the moment. Not my watch or my photo. I believe it may already have been registered above.
