    Greetings,

As someone who has learned alot about watches from this forum, I think it is time to give back.

I've had an issue for awhile about -74 steps being considered wrong, but so many tend to pop up I think its time to actually pull data and and see if we can find any correlation on the distribution of the step dials shakes out with extract and serial number data.

Additionally, common knowledge states that Medium S dials from the -74 only appear on the early 76 dials. Well with great work that @eugeneandresson did on his tool, this is starting to look like that might be wrong and Medium S dials went very far into 76 production. In fact I think I have the cross over pretty locked down within 1000 serial numbers.

    Data I would like

Serial number - at least 39,999,9xx if your not comfortable giving more please give as much as you feel comfortable.
    Style - stepped 74/domed 74 or Tall "S" 76 / Medium "S" 76
Extract production date - if you have it but not needed
Notes - any notes you want to add on the watch.
I will be recording the serial numbers for my chart as well as the forum name of the source. I will not release any information that has not been sanitized, and by that I mean forum name will be removed and serial number 39,99x,xxx is the furthest I will give that data out, unless I have a hard border and I will talk to the owners who are that edges if I am going to release a more detailed serial number.

If you would prefer to IM me on the forum with this information to keep it private I will also do so.

I am also pulling off of ebay, and will be including those watches also.

    Thanks!

    Foo2rama aka Phil

Now to distinguish the 2 dials on the -76. This is pretty easy, you look at the "S" in speedmaster, if the S drops to the bottom of the "p" then you have a Tall "S"

This is an example of a Medium S. You can see the "S" is wide and does not drop to the level of the "p" additionally these should also have tails on the "r." It goes without saying but they need to be wide "T Swiss Made T"

I've been curious too. Unfortunately I do not yet own any 74's or 76's so can't really chime in. Thanks for creating this thread, Phil.

Added @dennisthemenace, And a great example of a Tall "S"

I went blind going through every single post in the private watch sales forum to add data to the list... from reading all 70 pages, I came to the conclusion there are about 100x more -69's then anything else lol.

    Bump

Let's get those stepped 74's in here! I know there are a few on the forum.

Remember we don't need an extract.

You have a step dial 74 with a serial for a 69? Can you confirm the step and serial?

Hey guys. Just resurrecting an old thread, as I was doing a google search and came across this. Figured might as well register and contribute.
I know I'm a newbie here. But I'm sure some people here can vouch for me, as I'm more prevalent in another forum under the same username.

    I have a -74 step dial.
    Serial 32.2 million

    145.022-74
    SN - 31620489
    Dial - domed medium “S”

Can’t be guaranteed original, as the serial results in a production date of June ‘71... But otherwise seems correct for a -74... Interestingly less than 400 units away from @kmart’s above... for what it’s worth.
