Hi everyone, On a 145.022-69, is it common for the central chrono seconds hand to age/look different than the hour/minute hands, or is that typically a sign the chrono seconds hand was swapped during service? Pics attached.

There's no need to post the photo so many times.

It's really not possible to answer your question from one photo. Could be original, could be replaced. A UV shot might help.

Can you perhaps provide some context for your question, and a brief introduction would be appreciated, since this is your first entry into the community.

Hi Dan, thanks for the reply and apologies for the duplicate photos. I only uploaded 3 images, but it looks like the forum duplicated them on the thread (my profile still shows 3 photos). I’ll try my best next time to not let that happen.

Quick intro/context: I’m new here (user nas1995) and I recently picked up a vintage Speedmaster 145.022-69. My question is specifically whether it’s common for the central chronograph seconds hand to appear different color of aging than the hour/minute hands, or if that usually points to a later replacement/service hand.

I’ll post a UV shot (and a couple of sharp macros of the hands/dial) to help. Appreciate any guidance.

The first photo is with UV light on dial on a Seiko 7002 with original promethium lume on dial, and on hands. Note the sweep round lume at 10

The next photo is about 15 seconds later after turning off UV light. Note the hour and minute hands and hour markers are no longer glowing, but the seconds sweep is still glowing brightly. The seconds hand has been relumed.

Try this with UV light on your watch. If the sweep stops glowing in 20 seconds or so at same time as other hands it is probably original. If only the sweep keeps glowing longer it is likely relumed.

(Edit: This is true if the sweep was relumed with a more modern lume such as superluminova. However if it was relumed earlier with a tritium based lume it may not help. )
