Yes service/replacement/later are essentially interchangeable.

Yours is a later iteration of the bezel that was used both on later watches and as a service item.
Awesome, thank you for the clarification David. I appreciate it.

the terms are interchangeable in this case, although we obviously have no idea how that bezel ended up on your watch. Possibly during a service or possibly by deliberate tampering.

Thank you. Knowing the original owner, leads me to believe it's a Service Replacement. He was too distinguished to mess around.
I appreciate your knowledge

there was a time when a good DON bezel could sell for s much as $5k. People were buying watches, replacing bezels, and flipping them to suckers. Stories about old watches are often apocryphal.

Bottom line, it doesn't matter.

I see how that could happen. In this case it wouldn't make sense to downgrade to a DNN, but see your point going the other way. Cheers 🥂

Sorry, I wasn't clear. People were doing it to make profit. eBay was full of DON bezels sold as parts, and pre-moon Speedmasters with DNN bezels.

I thought it was B2 Narrow C bezel but after more inspection it looks like it might be a B3 Medium C bezel from 1990/1991-1995. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But probably matches up with the service dates. This is referring to the "C" in the word TACHYMETRE

When you hear those numbers before dials, bezels etc people are referring to pages within the book Moonwatch Only which is pretty much the definitive way to have the best bet to ID exactly what kinda of vintage Speedmaster you have—including what parts will have been replaced etc.

Very informative and appreciated. Another reason for me to grab a copy of the book. Thank you

One more note to add, I believe service/replacement parts (at least some of them) have a different designation/ref than their production ones. Example is a 145.022-69 case back, the service part number is LL 1450012.

Isn't the "LL" just the mark of the caseback maker?

LL, Louis Lang S.A. Porrentruy, Jura, Switzerland.

I believe the service case backs were specifically (only?) LL 1450012 marked in that time period. If you look through Moonwatch Only you wont see a single LL mark until PIC 3570.50 Tritium, and yet that is not a ref 1450012 and is ~1996. My main point was that service backs (assumed non-original) should be 1450012 which should not be a ref found anywhere else besides service case back. My assumptions based off of researching service backs for 63-70s.

Because it was a non runner I made a fair deal where no one was thrilled, but we were both satisfied. If possible I'd like to get more info on the bezel fitted to my watch.
I see people quoting different terms like , "Service bezel" or "Replacement bezel" are those terms meaning the same thing? Are service bezels different to one that came on a later watch from the factory?
I see variants with an accent above tachymeter. Where could I get these details.? Forgive my apparent laziness, but sometimes it's best to get first hand knowledge. Thank you
Here is a very interesting article...

Great stuff thank you.
As a matter of interest, my bezel was just identified by the author of that website as being from "the early 70s", so although it's not a DON it's older than we thought, Thank you for posting this direct link. HELP ! I've fallen down a rabbit hole

Sorry if it was mentioned before but IMO hour and minute hands are replacements, the tips should be much thinner
