1171 Bracelet Help

Hello all, I have a rather weird question. I have a 1171 bracelet with quite a lot of play. The middle links have streatched out a bit. I can take to have them tightened, but how far do they squeeze together? Only until they meet? Or do they meet and then squeeze down so they look like a number 8 from the side? Thanks for any insight!

The edges of the middle links should meet but not oberlap. The problem of these worn out bracelets is that the pins which are connecting the outer parts of the bracelet are grinded down. It is repairable but expensive.
