It's not the same watch

Sorry for my bad english i dont belive its the same watch.

I tryed to say that i never seen this dial before and when 2 shows up in a short time trough the same people i find it intresting.

If your watchmaker has a possebillity to take a photo of the backside of the dial it could be a good Idea.

if you look at numbers 53 and 119 it says a lot about the quality of this auction

The watchmaker, who repairs the clock, assessed it as original, not corrected.

Yeah...

I’d fire the photographer and the staff that put together the online catalog. To me, such an auction listing photo is either driven by laziness/stupidity or by greed. I don’t often repeat the ‘buyer the buyer’ mantra, but here it bears repeating. 📖

We’re not talking about some private party eBay listing. This is a commercial auction house. 🤪

I apologize for the rant. 🫨 I just get tired of looking at shitty photographs of questionable watches, particularly from people who should know better. :whipped:

(This is not in any way directed at the OP or purchaser, just the auction house that thought these photos did justice to a maybe $3,000 watch. Are they insulting the watch, their customers or themselves?)

I have about a dozen 321 Seamasters, either 105.001s, 105.005s or 145.005s, so I’ve followed this thread with some interest. While I still have reservations, I think it entirely possible the dial is legitimate—but I’ve held back, waiting for photos that did justice to the subject. 🍿

So, while waiting for a better resolution, I’ll just blow off some steam.

I asked the watchmaker to take clear pictures without glass. He promised to send next week. The watchmaker is not an expert, so thank you very much for your interest in this subject.

I am absolutely no expert on these dials but what bothers me most, based on this head on shot, is that the dial appears to be not straight, but turned to the right for a few degrees.

But maybe the angle of the shot. Still a nice watch.

I think the whole watch is tilted to the right.

The photograph isn't perfectly straight, it's very slightly canted to the right and down.

Once that is corrected it looks a lot better (baring minor glitches from the transformation).

My concern is still regarding the Seamaster font. Don’t understand why they would use two different fonts for the exact same reference. That being said weirder things have happened.

Looking forward to @airansun and others opinions once a good picture of the dial appears. My fingers are crossed for you @skand.

If that dial is redone, I'd want to meet the person who did it, because they've got a steady hand. Im only being facetious because I doubt its been redialed. Also, the auction house probably lost out on some extra cash due to their terrible photo skills. The watch looks to be in such better shape judging by the watchmaker's photos compared to the auction house.

Finally, great score @skand, looks like your last minute bid may have gotten you a beautiful piece for a very reasonable price.

Yeah, that dial is fine. My earlier comments about the photographer, turns out, were on point.

Congratulations @skand ! You won the gamble this time!

What a stunner! Happy it turned out well for you @skand

And since the pros are here: With regards to the differences in the Seamaster font on the same sub-ref, could this be due to different dial manufacturers or is the another sensible explanation? Curious to know.
