Could some-one confirm if the Dial of my 105.003 has been relumed.. or not.. Thank you and OF in advance. If you need more pictures, just let me know.
And in focus. Some of the plots look genuine and some not from what you’ve posted. Can’t tell for sure. If it’s not relumed, it looks like a very nice piece.
Relumed are not my strongest subject but the hands could to be replacements and the hand lume matches the dial lume.
For the photos, it would be better to increase the depth of field so all the lume plots are in focus. Do keep in mind that wobbly lume is characteristic of 105.003s. Some lume seems to have flaked off the 4 and 5 hour markers (and maybe 3).
Your photos are not the best, but it looks original based on texture, degradation, and some discoloration on some of the plots. The hands on the other hand... Are Luminova service parts.
It would help if you tell us some history, how you acquired the watch or why you think it might be a relume.
I agree with you, the chrono hand is a new replacement, it looks like they have this luminova greenish color
Thank you very much for these replies and answers... I will take some other better shots to get the best visual check-ups... That is correct and I bought this watch a proximally 2 years ago... but I have no history from the last 30 - 40 years.. I think the best you can do is to ask it on this forum for the best answers from the members with years of knowledge. Thank you in advance, Eric
Though I think the verdict is already out, maybe UV shots would help, though for the life of me I'm terrible at also telling original lume and I don't really know how to use a UV shot well. Is it supposed to show the evenness of lume?
There are still details you could add to help: 1. Was it a family piece you acquired in apparent unrestored condition or was it from a dealer, prepped for sale? 2. You are the one who has it in hand and that's the best way to tell. What are thoughts or concerns on it?
Try to minimise reflections. Put the watch near a window and take the photos standing side on to the window. Rather than get the camera close to the watch, position it a couple of feet away and zoom in.
There are people over here who know much more about Speedmaster dials then me, but my first thought was Relumed... This can not be original I think? And the lume color is also fresh for a 60's watch...
The lume on the OP watch doesn’t look all that different from mine which is I am fairly certain is fully original, wobble and all. The hands on the OP watch however look SL modern replacements to me. Mine have faded differently to each other and to the dial but are clearly faded tritium.
Here are the last pictures of the Dial and first Glass on the watch... and I think the lume is original (4 and 5 Hours are missing some lume on the stepped ring). Sorry for my late reply, because I was busy with a Drawer find....
I have seen that uneven Tritium on several old Speedmasters and i think it's original. Relume would probably look cleaner imho.
