A 105.012-65 popped up on ebay this afternoon and would love to get some takes on it - namely the regarding the lume and the damage to the dial.

Hands looks serviced. Very bright.
Lume is poorly applied but complete. I know this era has lot of variance in application quality..
The damage to the dial is the most curious part of the watch - Retouched markers over the damage? Some sort leeching oil that producing a bleaching like effect of the black paint?

Can't proove it but my guts say under the scratched crystal you will find an excellent dial with beautiful original hands.
IMO the 'damage' between 3-5 minutes is on the crystal
Only problem I see is between 50 and 53...

Just wanted to bump this if I may.

Does this type of dial damage look familiar to anyone?
trying to get a read on what might have caused what looks like corrosion without damaging the markers.

the auction has a couple days left. I don't think i will be putting a bid on this one but I would love to learn more about this kind of damage if it looks familiar.

cheers!

Having seen many dozens of Speedmasters, I've never come across anything exactly like this. I have seen somewhat similar damage which probably was caused by water ingress, which is more likely to be seen on the crown side. Not around 8 o'clock and between 10 and 11 o'clock like with this one. It's a pity really as the rest of the watch appears to be attractive. Then again, it will probably still look great on the wrist and might end up going 'cheap' for a nice vintage Speedy with matching bracelet in an otherwise very reasonable condition.

Thanks for the reply @Aludic. water damage did seem likely but good point on it being in a bit of an atypical place for it. It is quite nice looking watch otherwise!

the "damage to the dial" makes this watch a "no go" for me

paying more money for a better watch is the only option

once in future the watch should be sold - all problems come back
(even if the new owner tryed to ignore the damage during his ownership)

Is it just me or does the left side of the case and bezel ring look ground away? It seems noticeable when zooming in on picture 7.

Edit: Forgot to attach the picture!

We do need more pictures to assess the quality of the case...?

Have you compared with these lovely EW´s?

https://www.windvintage.com/omega-speedmaster-ed-white-105003-65-unpolished

https://www.chronoholic.com/product...105-003-65-ed-white-single-family-ownership-1

No connection to the sellers...but they always have wonderful watches!

And this is a Goto (you might have looked??):

I actually messaged the seller at the start of the auction to ask for some additional photos, but never heard back. So I lost interest a little bit and will probably sit this one out.

They do have very nice untouched Omegas quite often…I still think about that 2914 the had a few months back
Unfortunately, these 1st owner honest watches seem to only come up in the us, not much to chew on in Europe 🫣

bezel has suffered both in corrosion and is pretty ground down at its 6 o'clock.

the seller sent an additional up close photo of the dial damage to me early on as they didnt think there was actual damage because the markers were still present..

the bids keep coming though! Not sure why people bid something like that up so high early in the auction.

Well, it sold at 8800 USD before sales tax. Surely below the parts value. Someone got a decent deal. If it would have been in Europe, I would have snagged it up, if only for the bracelet / end links.

It went a little higher than I thought it would in that condition. Hope the dial is somehow remediable for whoever won it!

That was a very (very) good deal at that price.
I have never seen a similar damage on the dial.
I am sure the new owner will love this Ed White, what a great watch!
