Ok… your at a Thanksgiving or a Christmas dinner and your relative is wearing a IWatch. They say they want a real watch as their next watch.. Mechanical. They have a $1000 limit. So… What are you suggesting. 3 Rules 1) must be modern 2) must post a picture 3) must be under $1000US
My pick Pre-order Price: $848.00 Moana Pacific Professional Titanium (Black) https://www.magrette.com/shop/moana-pacific-professional-titanium-black-preorder?in=370040261
You can get a lot of watch for under 1000. Can become easy to forget that. Tissot, Hamilton all very viable.. how about this Frederique Constant? Good reliable automatic movement, 50metres water resistance, comes in gold or steel ( I prefer steel but gold also within budget) and would look great dressed up or down.
I just found out this exist. The Tissot PRX. $650 The PRX is so good, the last 2 shots are of AP Royal Oak. You didn’t even notice, did you!
Ikepod Megapod 46 mm to compete with those Panerais. $800 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/285047631974Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
A tad over $1k, new. Can be had for $925, mint (eBay). RADO, Captain Cook. Capable, reliable, mega vintage vibe with heirloom quality. Bonus, BOR bracelet for a few bucks more. edit: I’m told I’m breaking rule #3, under $1000. Found a mint, full set on eBay for BIN $925, with ss bracelet. Heck yaeah. . The Captain is back on.
I have the first version of the Retrospect. It's great value. Fits/wears well. And most important, looks great.
If it doesn’t have to be a big name, this would be my pick: Stowa Flieger Verus 40. No date, no logo. Super unpretentious, solid automatic movement, display case back so the relative can actually see what’s going on inside, legibility is A+, ~950$. What’s not to like? I used to own one, a long time ago, but when I realized I’m actually fine wearing vintage only I gave it to a friend. Now I kinda feel like borrowing it for a few days.
I would have to go with the slim turtle. Seiko SPB317 for USD $900. And can be had for significantly less.
Does get in line at a Swatch shop, buy a MoonSwatch, sell for +50$, repeat 4 times, get the proper 1200$ watch count? I feel like that’s a common sport right now…
