“Made in China” 1171 bracelet

Hello Omega scholars - I recently purchased a birth year Speedmaster. I’ve wanted one for a more than a decade but never found “the one.”

Anyhow, it came on a 1171/633 bracelet and was surprised to see “Made in China” on the clasp.

While it’s commonly known that a whole bunch of Swiss companies have bracelets (and other parts) made in China, I’ve never seen it so openly stated. And I can only find it mentioned in passing on an old OF thread. And not mentioned in the Moonwatch Only book in the bracelet section.

Anyone know more about these, their likely years of production and, of course, if that means it’s not legit Omega.

Thanks in advance. And I’m happy to send up a photo reply, if it’d be useful.

If you can send pictures of the end links, as well as the front and back of the clasp that would be great.

We can give you more info

Pictures please. That doesn't sound original to me.

Wait. I was wrong.

China. YLP.

I don’t plan to wear it but would just like to know if people have seen something like it before. Again, usually counterfeit stuff tries not to say “China” so I’m surprised, if that’s what it is.

I’m thinking now that, presuming the bracelet is legit, that they replaced the folding “blade” parts. But would still love the OF brain trust to weigh in.

Thanks again.

Probably, note it doesn’t say Omega or 1171 on the underside. Has it got screwed in links or push pins? What year is the watch head from?

I think someone has done some modifications of that clasp and replaced the folding clasp part with a part from another Chinese-made bracelet. The rest of the bracelet looks legit, so I would just chalk this up to a previous owner (or watchmaker) doing a cheap fix with parts on hand when the clasp broke.

Agreed. The folding part can wear out and needs to be re-bent the pin breaks but it isn’t something you can just push back in.

I just hasn’t thought it through.

To the other commenter, they’re split pins. I’ve had two with screws. I didn’t remember when that switch occurred but looks like 80s.

Thanks again.

Yes. The outer logo has changed 3 times. The 1970s 1171 had a different logo to yours and screw links. It went to the 1171/1 in the 80s with push pins and that square box logo, that one was current for decades. The most recent versions say 1171/633 on the clasp and still use pins.

Regarding the watch head, and out of an abundance of curiosity, what's the serial (or part thereof) of the watch and what year have you ascribed to it. Also out of curiosity to assuage my own interest in 70s and 80s Speedies some pics would still be of interest to get the overall context of the watch. 👍
