I just asked the guy to meet me at Bergman Jewelers, he is magically in NY.

Something just felt odd. As the kids would say, the vibes were off.

Wait, was somebody asking if this was legit??

I also like that there is one available but it’s currently in two people’s carts

Yes and no. The price and listing are definitely a red flag. Since the purchase paperwork and pic of certification were local to me, I was willing to “meet” the seller at the jeweler.

In general, these are not replica watches. The sellers scrape photos from other listings (or sometimes IG or forum posts) and construct fake listings for real watches. If you look at this seller's inventory, you will see that they are listing several valuable pre-owned and vintage watches for less than 10% of their value. They are using actual photos of authentic watches, but they don't have the watches to sell. It's a total scam.

You have obviously done a lot of research in to buying a genuine 16800. Your opinion on this being a genuine offer is?

What about this one? Anyone willing to take the risk? Seller actually has feedback and nothing from the photos leads me to believe it isn't genuine. Whether or not the watch actually exists is another story.

seller just sold the same watch 3 hours ago for 4600.

then the same watch sold for 5700 on may 30

then the same watch sold for 5500 on may 7

then the same watch sold for multiple times for 5500 on may 2/3

i believe this watch has one of the rare moroccon dials

I’ve bought watches in the past on Etsy and had luck but I look now and see a lot of these suspect listings. That rolex thing seemed to start half a year or so ago, that I noticed could have been longer. I don’t know why they don’t prune those things.

I don't see why one would be likely to find good deals on Etsy. Random people unloading a watch they inherited or won in a craps game won't use Etsy; they'll use eBay. And people who know what they're selling but who want to reach the most buyers will also use eBay. Fees on Etsy may be a little lower but not enough to dominate getting the best price.

My perception is that sellers in Etsy are going to be: people with mediocre product looking to get in front of shoppers who happen to be on Etsy (someone shopping for something for Dad on Father's Day), people evading eBay's more robust anti-fraud team, or maybe some sellers who sell on Etsy regularly and who happened to come across a watch to sell (e.g. people who unload items from estates). Only the last might list watches a sophisticated buyer might be interested in.
