Hi all, I would like to ask for some help verifying the authenticity of this particular model I'd like to buy. I have searched for other gold Conquests with the fish symbol on the back and I only keep seeing Conquests with the blue sky caseback. What's the difference between those two models? I know the crown is not original and I'm thinking the second hand is also a replacement, but I guess I can find those two separately. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It's authentic. Your watch is gold capped, not solid gold. Stainless and gold capped have the green fish medallion, while solid gold models have the blue waves & stars. The only thing I see wrong is the crown - it's a replacement.
Original crowns for these are generally available on eBay. Something about the seconds hand doesn't seem quite right, either. gatorcpa
I'm seeing what appears to be significant wear on the gold cap on the upper left lug. Second hand on these is typically the same length as the minute hand.
Do you guys think this one can work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Longines-cr...748?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20ea4a1f84Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network The seller said he replaced the seconds hand because he thought it looked better in black. But he now has it with the original hand. Do you think in its current state it's ok for me to pay USD 250 for this one? Thanks from Colombia.
I suspect that the hands are wrong. Accompany picture of a watch I owned in the past with the right hands /Anders
I think you are right. Besides, there seems to be short bold lines in the markers and the one being offered to me doesn't have those either. So, should I let this one go for $250? Thanks everyone for the help
I believe that the (hour and minute) hands are correct, and here's why: While it is true that a big majority of Conquests from that era have hands with narrow spaces for lume, they also invariably have lume associated with the markers. I believe that there was a small percentage of models that were produced without any dial lume whatsoever, and, as in the case of the example being discussed, when there is no lume associated with the markers, it is both consistent and correct to find the type of hands seen. Furthermore, the script is too good for a redial, so I do not believe that there ever was any lume associated with those markers. Here's a steel example (the hands are corroded, but no space for lume): Cheers, Tony C.
Price is good for a Conquest in decent condition. See TonyC's watch for an example of the correct crown. Just need to find a gold one. Like the gold seconds hand much better also. gatorcpa
I want to thank everyone for the comments and help I received. This is a truly great forum and I'm glad to be a member. I already have the watch in my hands and I couldn't be happier with it.
