Saw a couple of 50s or 60s ultra-thin Audemars Piguet (way classier than any RO IMO), and I was wondering why do they go for so cheap ? (usually around 1K) As far as I know it used to be one of the best brand back in those days. So is it another fashion trend or ...
Only a thousand? I'd like to see these, because they usually sell for $2200 - $4800 in raw (read: unserviced) but cosmetically good condition depending on the model.
I should have specified that I'm talking in € and yes roughly up to 2 000€, but that's not what I qualify expensive for this type of brand. (That was in Christie's or Sotheby's auctions results, I should post some exemples.) (EDIT: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20749/lot/117/ like this one) But speaking with other fellows about AP, we've noticed that it's all about Royal Oakes now. It became their flagship with a tons of (useless?) declension. But what about the rest ? What about before the RO ? Erasing all the other models from their history of watchmaking for that... I'm perplexed.
That's in mediocre condition at best, and it might even be a redial. Need better pictures to tell. Besides, that's just the estimated hammer price.
Well fair enough, this one is a bad exemple, right. But I guess usualy, hammer price are made by experts based on market trends, and these are what they expect for those watches to grow Here's in antiquorum, they don't seem to reach a top 2K http://www.antiquorum.com/catalog/l...demars+Piguet&browse_all=1&page=1&q=thin+gold http://www.antiquorum.com/catalog/l...demars+Piguet&browse_all=1&page=5&q=thin+gold http://www.antiquorum.com/catalog/l...demars+Piguet&browse_all=1&page=5&q=thin+gold (there could be things wrong with those also, I don't know AP well... but my desire to learn is limitless)
I'm not a member and don't really feel like joining to see the prices so could you tell us what the final sale price was? Also, these are all manual winds - the automatics fetch more money. An original but mediocre dial. I have a 1969 Classique caliber 2003 in near mint condition that I paid $2300-ish for and considered that a fair price for it. Looks to be in better shape, but did I read that auction date right? 11 years ago? As in, before gold went up and mechanical watch popularity went into overdrive? Probably a redial, and these dual branded models hurt the value. That, and it's a 29 mm diameter - and again, an old result (10+ years ago).
Prices between 1.2 up to 2.1 (without buyer's premium) Right these are old auctions, but I picked up what seemed to me better exemples than recent, redialed or worse condition watches. But still there not so many... Do you have better exemples ?
