I miss my watch, seriously miss it. Recently I purchased my first expensive watch, an pre-owned Omega Seamaster 300m Diver Co-Axial 41mm Black 212.30.41.20.01.002 off of the internet. When the watch arrived, I was mezmerized. I wore it on my wrist proudly and couldn't take my eyes off of it. After about a week, I did the unthinkable: I opened the back. I don't know why, I guess I just wanted to be sure and satisfied of it's authenticity. And also to get glimpse the inner workings of a piece of impeccable Swiss engineering. In doing so, I must have done something to cause damage to the balance wheel or hairspring because it stopped working. My heart dropped as I tried coax life back into my watch. Nothing I did would bring it out of it's sleep. I contacted and visited several watch repair specialists in my area in WI. None of them would touch the co-axial movement of my newly beloved Seamaster. So off it went to the Omega repair center in Secaucus, NJ. They quoted me the price of service. It staggered me initially but then I thought that this is the price of my stupidity. I accepted. They said service would take 6 - 8 weeks. Now I wait and long for the moment I get the timepiece back on my wrist. Almost unbearable. I constantly check the repair status thinking that today will be the day that it says "Service completed, shipping". But I wait...and wait. Has anyone else ever done the same thing? I guess I don't want to think that I'm the only foolish one out there.
Mate that's why you need to own more than one watch, ideally many. That way while one's being serviced you wear the others, its a matter of practicality
Very, very far from unthinkable. Routine, even. We call it "tuition." I could write a book. We've all paid one price or another along the way.
