Hi everyone, A while ago there I purchased the 18k Zenith captain in the below post: https://omegaforums.net/threads/zenith-captain-gold-in-ebay.89194/#post-1154476 In the next few weeks I will try to post some more details about the watch, but I've only just received it. One thing I straight away noticed is that the brushing on the case is very professionally done, but not original to the watch. From what I have seen looking at many old Zenith Captain's in this style, they were, AFAIK, fully polished (with exception of caseback). As mentioned, the brushing on the case has been quite professionally done and is very attractive. For example the brushing on the top of the lugs shows that the case had to be chucked to a lathe. I can imagine that a previous owner of the watch just found the polished gold case and gold dial to be a little too excessive. So now my question to you here is: what to do? Should I repolish the case so it more accurately resembles how it came from the factory? Or should I just leave it and respect the current condition of the watch? Please see attached several pictures that show the polishing.
I'd have to agree. i love these and I suppose you could polish it back to original, but you always lose something that way. Enjoy it!
That's a reasonable option, but you could also ask the seller to refund a part of the purchase and then get it repolished if it bothers you.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone. It seems the majority would just keep it this way, and I'm inclined to agree. Personally, when I buy antique items on eBay such as vintage watches I hold my own judgement responsible for any issues with the originality of different aspects of the watch. So unless there is a gross misrepresentation, I don't really feel comfortable complaining to the seller. We are after all a fickle bunch. This is also an interesting topic actually but maybe not for this forum.
