Yeah I've had second thoughts about that. My initial impression was that someone painted a little bit outside the lines, but upon further reflection I think it could very well be original lume.
I would say in the vicinity of $2000 - $2500, provided the case back inscription (see below) isn't polished out. It's only a step or two behind early Primeros and cal 135's on the vintage Zenith icon list, so the value should go nowhere but up.
I would say that the lume on the numerals was hand applied. Whether or not this is an original feature, I wouldn't know.
You have crystallized my thinking on the lume exactly. I was initially thinking that it looked hand-painted, but then decided that the original lume might well have been hand-painted, and it doesn't look like a recent job.
Congrats! Looks much better in your photos. And by the way, dibs! It must be one of the last of the S.58's. I don't know that I've seen one with a xxxAxxx case back number before.
Stop fighting your perfectly normal, masculine diver-love, Dennis. It doesn't make you a bad person. Accept it, before it destroys you.
I’m assuming your pics were taken after a cleanup, definitely turned out looking good. Any significance to the S.58 designation?
