Zenith Rainbow Flyback (color version), a few sticking points

This one just arrived, it is a 01/02.0480.405. Came with box and steel bracelet. A few points that I am not so sure what to make of.

1) the bracelet has "zenith" hidden inside the clasp but not on the outer part as I normally saw on other rainbow bracelet. Is this a legit bracelet or a replacement?

2) the 01/02, does that mean it can either be originally fitted with a leather strap or a bracelet?

3) the pearl on the bezel insert, can that be sourced from some parts sellers not LVMH?

Thanks very much once again for the wisdom 😁, I just couldn't believe I am now with 4 Zeniths....

As far as I know, they came with leather strap (01) or bracelet (02). I've never seen one with both 01/02 inscribed, but there is not a lot of info out there on these. Sala mentions only these two versions on the colored version, and a quick perusal of the new Duval book didn't shed any new light. Perhaps a service back, interchangeable to both references? BTW, Priek makes a display back for these that is quite nice.

Never seen a bracelet like that either, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Some months ago I did inquire to Zenith and a couple of authorized repair shops about a replacement bezel (I subsequently found an example that didn't need it) and was advised by all that these were no longer available.

This reference is one of my favorites and was my first Zenith, enjoy yours!

Thanks darlinboy,

Your post earlier in th forum inspired me 😀

Will try to find out more myself about the 01/02. Also will see what I can do with the bezel.

The nice thing is it also came with the paper on top of the box (including original receipt)

Cheers,
Eric

Here's mine. Don't know that much about the watch other than I liked the look and picked it up last year. I was going through an anti-Daytona phase, still am, and decided to buy 5 Zeniths for less than the price of a similar vintage (and shared movement) Daytona.

It's my son's favorite. It does say Zenith on the outside of the bracelet and stainless steel on the inside.

Thanks gemini4,

On the reference number does it simply say 02.xxxx.xxxx or something else like 01/02.xxxx.xxxx

Cheers,
Eric

02.0480.4xx. Good luck
Zenith do not give numbers to movements or cases from this era so all of these are 02.0480.405 (with the 405 being the calibre) for the bracelet model and 01.0480.405 for the strap model.

Thanks Stewart, and mine had a funky "01/02.0480.405" neither here nor there

A couple of catalogue pages, one shows a bracelet detail.

thanks for the pics from the catalogue,

The bracelets are almost identical (I have scrutinized several samples i can find on the web and in ebay)

The difference here is the "zenith" hidden under the clasp ("stainless steel" also appearing in same position). Also the quality of the bracelet is very well made. Perhaps it is an aftermarket bracelet by zenith?

What I will do is I will also open the screwback to see what is inside, just to see whether it is Franken or not 😜 but that will have to be tomorrow as I left the stuff at my office.

Service replacement is my best guess for both bracelet and case back.

This reference just doesn't seem to be a likely target for counterfeits.

Makes sense.

Case back is plain inside, movement has some numbering 158xxx and is a 405z

The 405Z is the later version of the caliber circa 2000, and correct. Had some small modification (to the escapement IIRC) vs. the 405. I don't have my caseback to compare as it's in storage.

That is interesting. You just need to find the black & red strap now. 👍

Hirsch jumper is a near twin, and works with the Zenith deployant. I put away the original and wear it on that.
