Second hand is perhaps not original. The length seems wrong and the style is different from other hands.

I agree that the second hand is a replacement, and it appears that the dial may also have some flaws.

I looked at the pictures of Zenith Captain on Rössler's book and it seems that second hand should be a bit thinner. It looks very same styled but I think it is bit too thick. It is hard to say. Still very nice watch.

It's a very nice watch. We have always to remember that these watches are now some decades old. This is not the case - I don't see these flaws - but maybe we've to start thinking that is not normal trying to find vintage watches in new conditions.
Want new? Buy new. It's easy.
Anyway this specific item is in really amazing conditions IMO.

No need to buy new, and new takes away the the best part of collecting. The thrill of the hunt and that first glimpse when you open the package.

You want to see amazing ;)

I've seen Zenith watches of these years with very strange make-ups! :D Of course the inner caseback will be great for OP's doubts, but I think it could be completely original.

Agree the sweep second hand is a replacement. I have seen this knurled case back before and I believe it to be a legitimate variant. The crown is an original paddle-wheel type, and the case is unusually sharp. Mixed bag of a watch... love this model though.

    Hi everyone,

I'm the buyer of the watch and am quite excited about it. I will report back on this watch once I receive it but it might take a while because it will take a short detour.

I am hoping that the watch is in as good a condition as it looks in the pictures. The scratches on the crystal should buff out easily, and if the gods are kind the case finishing might be original.

Regarding the second hand, I also noticed it being different. However I was able to find several similar models with the same 'boring' second hand, all being non-chronometer Captains. All chronometer Captains seem to have the fancy hands though. With the condition of the watch looking quite good and the hand having roughly the correct length, there is a chance it's original.

    Best regards,

Here is a steel version with the standard second hand.

Thanks guys! I agree, the gold one is way more attractive and special than the steel one :)

I haven't seen many of these with gold dial in the non-chronometer version. Originally I had my heart set on a Captain Chronometre Deluxe, but haven't been able to find one in good condition.

Here is an ad I found for what appears to be the watch I bought.

I guess it should have an 2522P inside.
