Hello everyone Here again, the Zenith 156 I've posted few days ago went sold. What a pity, but I keep looking to have my Zenith Stellina gold. Today I have a specific question for those familiar with the 146D or maybe the GZ 1.71 The one posted seems (pic N°1) to have a slightly different dial compared to GZ 1.71. Please look at the missed "BASE" nomenclature on the external tachymeter and the position of numbers on the left compax. I'm sure 100% that dial is not reprinted, however, I'm curious to understand why that changes, or maybe it is not a GZ 1.71? Thanks in advance for your help
Thanks, look at the position of the number on the left compax. They are different compare to my first picture..isn't it? look also to the position of 300 in the tachymeter (still compared to picture 1)
I love 2 dial chronograph watches and want to get one someday. I used to think it would be an old uni-compax or Omega 320 but the 146 is beautiful.
it seems a really tricky dilemma Is the different dial the result of continuous changes on Zenith manufacturers at that time?
Thanks a lot guys. It would be super interesting to understand and map the differences within the same ref.
Quick curiosity. I've always understood that experts familiar with vintage look at the differences on the dials and judges it by comparing with a reference (catalogue whenever possible). Why this stringent evaluation is not applicable for these stellina? Is there any historical reason why zenith have produced different dials? That's a curiosity and thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.
certainly models like mine refer to the last production batch, if I remember correctly mine should have the serial number with the D
Mine is a series A case number. It may be a case of Zenith just putting together watches with whatever they had at the time since they owned Martel and probably wanted to move product.
Here’s mine, a 146D. As you can see, a bit different still, with the larger indices at ‘6’ and ‘12’. EDIT: actually mine looks just like that first one you posted, except less polish..
Yes it looks similar. How do you see that it is less polish? Have you been able to understand the year and ref? Thanks man
I’ve never tried to determine the year… I think it might be possible with the movement number though; others with more knowledge here might be able to answer that. I’m clueless on determining references as well. As for the polish, mine has very sharp facets along the lug edges, so it doesn’t look like it has ever been polished That first one is a real beauty, though
I’m not sure what the market is on these, but I would think that they have only gone up since I bought mine six years ago… I spent just north of $2K back then. If it’s one you think is going to be a keeper, then I’d say anything under $3K would be quite reasonable, but I’m shooting from the hip. Search the completed auctions on eBay for comparison if you can find any...
you can get an idea of the year based off serial number charts available online. Reference numbers are not marked on Zenith watches and are unknown unless you have old catalogs/advertising. Only with an extract from their archives will you get an exact date and ref number. Sometimes they can tell you the country the watch was sent to.
i bought it. l'll keep you informed as soon as I have it on my hands. I hope really soon. PS: have you seen that GZ1.71 with gold NSA bracelet. it looks amazing
