Good morning OF, I picked this up over the weekend. The seller says the watch is all original. I've read here that black dial Seamasters are harder to find. I couldn't find any examples with hands like these. I would appreciate your thoughts! I hope to have the watch opened up to take more pics and will update when I do so. Thanks for your comments.
It looks good to me. Only thing is omega logo on dial, it looks like it is glued, maybe it is due to years that is faded! Nice vintage watch!
Thanks! The seller explained that the residue is from patina. Does this make sense? Yikes! That doesn't sound good. I do like the watch, but if the hands aren't original I don't know if I would be satisfied with my purchase. I would like to clarify: They are the correct style hands, but are too short/maybe have been clipped? Would it be advised to find the correct ones and replace?
It seems a little suspect on a black dial watch (the redialers' color of choice) to also have short hands, patina only around the Omega logo, and lume missing from all the hour markers.
See pictures of the variety of seamaster hands and lengths here (at least those with a 552): http://www.naligazone.com/index.php...r-5/25-watch/omega/caliber5/124-omega-cal-552
Hope these are good enough. Please excuse my amateur photography! I appreciate all the comments so far.
I'm swaying towards redial. There's no lume on the markers suggesting they've been removed and cleaned.
The dial looks good, but the hands are wrong - the lack of lume looks normal on this dial, the issue is rather the hands to me!
If the dial is ok, but the hands are wrong I think I could live with that providing that replacement hands are possible to obtain down the line. Could someone point me in the direction of the name of the hands and perhaps an example of what they should look like? Or do I need to know the reference number in order to move forward? Much thanks.
