I've no knowledge of vintage watches never mind Omega vintage watches, however I'd really like to own one. Can you please take a look at this and let me know your opinions, good or bad? http://www.sonningvintagewatches.co...seamaster-automatic-date-gents-vintage-watch/ Thanks.
Hi And welcome to the forum. Firstly, good move seeking advice before diving in. It is an absolute jungle out there. Quite early on in the description there is a significant alarm bell, so I didn't do a thorough check of the watch. The seller says; "The original Omega ivory/white dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is simply breathtaking." That is a killer for collectors. We do our best to avoid watches with refinished or altered dials - we look for dials which are untouched since they left the factory. If you are thinking about collecting in the future, I'd say you'll regret buying this watch. If, on the other hand, you are just after a watch to wear every day, that is a different question. What price are they asking? If you like this one http://omegaforums.net/index.php?threads/Omega-Seamaster-Date.2394/ It would be a very good purchase. Daniel
Okay, I need to come clean. I did dive in before seeking advice, and am the buyer of said watch. (Sorry Daniel). To be fair I only found this forum today. I'm not a collector so although I know you guys prefer "farm fresh", I was just just looking for a prestige watch in good condition that I can wear with pride on high days and holidays. I did manage to get £500 off the asking price, but I suspect I may still have overpaid a tad. As long as a genuine watch I'm happy enough though. I won't be pushing the boat out on another one like this, unless a lottery win comes my way.
Oh, sorry! Is it authentic, yes. It is a nice watch to wear on a daily basis. Hope you stick around here and get suckered in.....
http://omegaforums.net/threads/fs-18ct-1960-seamaster-reference-14-704-1-caliber-591.961/ I just had Steve / N2FHL do any touch-ups necessary and give the movement another service despite it being done 3 years ago. Looks better than the pics in the listing now.
Just to be sure, you know it needs to be fully wound before you wear it so that the power reserve is full.
