Hi Guys, I just got lucky at a local auction in Germany.

As you can see the pusher is damaged, but the watch is already on its way to the factory. I always factor in a service and in this case the purchase price justifies the additional repair costs.

I think overall the watch is in good condition with the dial being the highlight. Case has few small scratches but the coating is fully intact at any point. Sorry I am not the best photographer, please excuse the lighting.

By the way, on a rather odd note .. the lady at the local watch store said Omega might refuse to work on the watch if I don’t agree to have the tritium removed — ever heard of this ? Would be a shame since the dial looks so nice !

    Now over to you :)

Get it back ASAP and bring it to a local watchmaker who is sympathetic towards vintage watches. If you need recommendations in Germany for good watchmakers, send me a PM.

Omega will/can likely change the dial or indeed remove the tritium, change other parts that don’t need changing (the crown for example and the pushers). Apart from the one bend pusher and the movement likely needing a service I see no reason from the pictures you provided to change anything else on that watch.

    Cheers,

    Max

Hi Max, thanks! They say nothing will be done unless authorized by myself so worst case is I lose 50€. It’s clear that I won’t authorize any changes on the dial.

I thought independent watchmakers are not an option anymore because of parts dependency ?
I would of course be happy about any tips in GER!

    Thanks

There are still independent watchmakers in Germany with omega parts acccounts. They just need to be certified by Omega and hold up to their standards.
Yet they are more free on what work they carry out and what special arrangements they make with the customer.

That’s good that you arranged that nothing will be done until you authorize it. Yet we had some „horror“ stories on here where watches send to Omega with clear instructions came back altered in a way the owner didn’t want. (Case polished, parts changed etc).

It‘s a bit of a gamble it seems, and I wouldn‘t want to gamble when it comes to my vintage watches conditions.

I will send you a PM with some contacts.

Where in Germany are you located btw?

Sounds like disaster has been narrowly avoided. 50 Euros is a small price to pay for that.
You've been a member since 2015 but didn't know NEVER to send a vintage watch to Omega for servicing? ::confused2::

No I did not know that .. the only other one I have is the cosmic I placed next to the chrono in the pictures.

That one was actually fully restored at the factory, because the dial was pretty Franken when I got it.

It has cost me more than the watch is worth and I am totally fine with that because I plan to keep it.

Anyways, Max has given me some good addresses in Germany and the will go there instead.

By the way, any comments on the condition ? Is it difficult to find one like this? Guess steel is more sought after ..

    Cheers!

I’d say the condition is quite nice - the case seems sharp, and the dial is gorgeous. Steel cases are still more desirable for most, but I think gold is starting to come back into popularity, albeit slowly. Omega seems to be adding a bit more gold to their watches recently (to the horror of some), but I think it’s a trend that will continue.

A classic watch with a classic sized case, and the classic 321 movement - what’s not to love?

    Well done!

Thanks Bama! Those were about my thoughts when I placed my bid .. ! But again, I am not an expert, just a vintage Omega fan ..

By the way, the retailer had it still in his store so I can pick it up again - your quick replies saved me 50 bucks. I owe you a beer each!

Now you need to find a watchmaker that has access to 321 parts if needed.

Yes, Max gave me an address not far away from my home town. They are an Onega certified workshop so I would hope they have Access to the Parts.

    Thanks Alex!

Going into service to a local watchmaker on Saturday .. apparently the pushers can still be ordered with Omega but it takes a while.

    Let’s see how that goes!

    Best

Sorry, maybe I am blind. Where is the pusher damage? Is there a small dent on the back side?

It is bent slightly towards the crown ... and unpushable currently. So the stop function just runs as long as the watch is wound.

These pictures might make it better visible:

Hmmm looks like I got lucky. Went to the local watchmaker today and this is what happened.

He opened the watch and as it turned out, it’s not a 145.005 but a 105. So it is the actual Moonwatch caliber.

He said it looks to him like the watch was never opened - and that normally the parts are at least slightly corroded on a movement of this age.

In this case however the movement seems pretty fresh as seen in the picture below.

It will now be repaired without changing anything else except the crystal.
