The first watch I was proud to own. Picked up on streets of Kowloon, HK 1989.
I don’t wear it much anymore. New battery last fall. Still runs

My first watch was back in the 1970s - a Chronosport UDT. I got fog under the crystal and pulled off the back to let it dry our. To speed the process I put it in the back window of our VW Beetle but forgot about it and left it there, in direct sunlight. When I remembered and took it out the watch was ruined. Everything inside got badly warped from the heat, and that was all she wrote.

It’s so long ago that I can’t remember, but I can be certain it was a Swiss watch. My mother was Swiss, born and brought up in Neuchâtel. She was very knowledgeable about watches and watchmaking. My siblings and I were given a Swiss watch when my parents deemed us responsible enough to look after it. I reckon I was probably six or seven.
