Rules are: 1: Can't have been a gift 2: Can't be a ladies watch 3: Must be a genuine Omega 4: Must at least partially resemble a functional watch (all parts) 5: Frankens and bad redials are not only welcome, they are encouraged Gentleman, show us your crap! Photos, price, and source!
This one was $200 from an anti-drug church group that took it as a donation to sell for fundraising, a Cal 501 Seamaster Gold-Cap on Twist-O-Flex that still keeps good time:
Cross hairs and a coat hanger S for $200 is a bargain even if it didn't run. I bought the gold plated Seamaster Cosmic shown on the right for $150 a few months back hoping to restore it. I like this case style and worst case scenario is it's a spare parts movement. Paid $1000 for this 18ct Centenary reference 2500 last year. Restored it and traded shortly thereafter it for my favorite black dial Connie of all time!
This one, $75., bought it to have movement to practice work on. Pretty beat-up, owned by a lineman for the county.
1020. 17j. Actually a nice watch, little banged up outside but inside nice, lota miles left on this baby
Since I didn't read the rules (specifically #1 and #2). I withdraw my first entry. We'll go with this US Army watch Ref. 2179 with a cal. 30T2SC movement. Purchased via eBay Buy-it-now from a family member of the original owner. I know this one was exactly $200 delivered. I have several others around the same price point, but I think this one is the best value for money of the bunch. Take care, gatorcpa
Ha nice, what was the gold weight like? A while back I was looking at an Audemars the same as Dennis' automatic but in a manual wind version and the seller was advertising it as Stainless Steel when Dennis pointed out it had to be White Gold, the price was still too high even for WG, but it does happen.
I think the seller is still relisting that watch, still describing it as ss, and still asking more than what I paid for my automatic by several hundred.
Makes me hold out hope that one of those Golden Seamasters that Mike likes comes along that's a bit "heavy" in SS some day
I thought lady's watches were not allowed. Rule-breaker. I am afraid I don't have an entry for this category....yawn.
Yes, I understand since there's not a Speedmaster to be seen in this thread you're bored. It's okay, go back to your bubble and fondle your chronographs. Something with a creeping hour register will show up soon enough.
As Speedy pointed out, I inadvertantly broke some rules, so I took down the ladies' watch. I haven't a clue of the gold weight, but it isn't much. For what is supposed to be a lot of crap, there's some pretty nice Omegas here. Just not any Speedys, Speedy. gatorcpa
Gator, I forgive you for breaking the rules. Dennis, I do not forgive you...but that hour recorder/subdial is a real thorn in the Speedmaster. At least half of mine have had or do have an issue with it. The only watch I could consider for this category would be the 69 cal. 861 pro I used for the FrankenPanda. It was a pretty nice watch with a badly broken crystal, crown that looked like it came from a 1920 Elgin, and the seller thought it was not working because, as I confirmed upon receipt, he had the movement ring out and couldn't figure out how to get it back in. It worked fine once I put it back in. That one set me back about 800 bucks, I think. The BEST thing about it was that it had the early dot over 90 bezel in nice shape that I removed and put on a more worthy cal. 321.
And here is the same watch with a couple of changes as it is today. I think I'll post that photo on the what I'm wearing today thread.
My hundred dollar tank: This one was $200, I clicked the buy it now button really fast when I saw it...
Gator, I dig that military Omega. The inscription on the back is great, too. It's interesting that USAFE should stand for USAF in Europe, but the USAF wasn't born until 1947. It's a transitional piece. If I grab a Constellation off Ebay will you trade me for it?
USAFE stands for US Air Forces in Europe. Although still techincally part of the Army in those days, there was a separate designation for the Air Corps stationed overseas. Here's a little history on USAFE: http://www.usafe.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123287633 That ball is not a baseball, but a ca. 1946 basketball. There was a tournament among all the USAFE units in March 1946. The finals were held in Wiesbaden and an All-Star team from the Wiesbaden AFB (the largest in Europe at that time) won the event. I think that the winners got these watches that were probably pulled from surplus, or came from the PX.
