I have been looking for a 1970's Valjoux 7734 watch for about a year now. It's a quality movement that was used by Heuer, Breitling, and Tudor. I just love the dial layout with date at 6. I am also attracted to the fact there was a lot of boutique watch companies that popped up during this time, so many it seems that anyone could start a watch company. Lot's of funky dial designs and bold colors. I finally found one that ticked all the boxes for me. It's near mint. The case, it's Huguenin Freres, a Speedmaster case. The hour markers are the classic 70's raised blocks with lume inserts. Bakelite bezel with lume triangle. Black, internal Tachy scale. And the Orange Chrono hand reminiscent of the Tudor Monte Carlo, Breitling Datora, and the Heuer Autavia. Roulette date wheel. 42mm w/o crown. I got it out of France. The manufacturer, like lot's of these boutiques that popped up, is one I've never heard of, nor could I find any info to speak of on.
Congrats, very nice. I've always liked that robin's egg blue bezel colour, also found on the Zodiac Sea Wolf, etc
Very nice! I almost asked without reading, upon seeing the first picture: was that a speedy pro case? Actually it one-ups the speedy with its duel bezel feature.
Very cool. These various late 60's/early 70's chronos with Valjoux 7733 and 7734 would be a terrific collecting niche. So colorful, such cool dial layouts, so many variations and makers, and prices aren't (yet) insane.
Looks good. Funny how the bezel and dial can change a case completely. Googled the name, seems that Provhor is short for Provencale D'Horlogerie, or watches from Provence.
That watch looks like it was put together from the coolest parts a 70's watchmaker had left over that happened to fit together. And I mean that as a compliment.
That's probably not far off of how the watch was created. Only it happened in 1970 or so. From observation, it seems this was a period in the watch industry that there were many small boutique watch companies started that took "off the shelf" 773x movements, Heuer, HF, etc. cases, had a dial maker liker Singer make up a batch of dials and voila, instant watch company. A unique time in horological history.
