Given my recent 166.002 SMDV shiny thing turned to coal debacle (sent packing back to the dock of the 'bay), I figured I'd test my nascent skills by cruising Connies. After all, many of you insist it's inevitable, and I can see why. They are gorgeous, eh @McKinley? (I will remain on safari for the 60's SMDV though).

Now, I have no intention of buying this one, yet I don't feel educated enough to toss it on the bad redial thread, and I am, of course, open to learning all I can. Reputable eBay seller, too, and yet there is something fishy about this one (like the n's for starters?). Thoughts?

Unless the fonts changed in the mid to late 60's from the from the 50's, you are right on the n's. But, like you I am too much of a noob to blindly call it. I also believe the M and O do not pass the test. They are out of line, to my eye. Connies will grow on you, I promise. I already can see the day when I go from 3 Seamasters, back to just one, but have multiple connies.....as I need one in a gold case now.

Additional input from another noob; the crown looks off. Shouldn't it be 10-sided?

I dont remember when but Omega stopped using the 10-sided crown way before this was made.
The movement dates the watch to ca. 1971.

Please google 167.754 Constellation. Look at the pictures you see. Look very closely at the n. Look at the serial number. Google Omega serial numbers by year. Google is your friend. No need to ask any questions about this watch if homework was done.

Apologies for wasting your time. I was simply making sure my observations were correct. Google is my friend; OF is the authority. Message received.

I am also very new to this but have been looking at Constellations as well. Everything seems off about the dial to me: the font, the Omega emblem, the star (too pointy). The crown Omega imprint is wrong. The Omega imprint on the movement looks too thin/shallow.

The problem is this Constellation is from the 70s. No correlation with the 60s Constellations you are probably looking at.

Appreciated. 1970’s yes - that much I knew. I do like 70s Connies which is why this caught my eye initially (you’re correct - i prefer and spend more time looking at 60’s models). What I didn’t know and admittedly did not research was whether scripts etc changed in the 70s. I’ll stick with SM for now and lurk in the wings to better understand Connies.

If you like the style, these round cased, flat dial, Connies are underrated for now and represent good value for money - and will undoubtedly come into their own one day.
Just don’t go paying what you would for an earlier pie pan or dome dial.
