For your consideration is my iconic WWW Omega Australian. These vary from the British version only in that the casebacks were unmarked.

    Australian WWW Watches
From discussions, seen on the Military Watch Resource (MWR) Forum in late July 2006, it was suggested that there were two versions of British WWWs that were sent to Australia- Jaeger Le-Coultre and Omega. After one forumite made an ebay purchase and did some investigation, a concensus developed that there were indeed Australian versions.
This is an attempt to classify Australian versions of the British WWW wristwatches, referred to as Australian WWWs. (This is not an official name).

    Omega
A forum participant found an old forum posting, written by a well-known watchmaker/ dealer from Australia.
“I recently acquired what has now been generally accepted as being an Aussie "WWW" Omega and was curious to find out if the Omega museum archives had anything noted in their ledgers to this effect”.
“Anyhow, after the watch was ship shape again I went online and ordered the extract giving all the pertinent information including additional details such as the case being wholly unmarked, both inside & out and the fact that all known examples have been originating from Australia. This fact has been backed up with either written or verbal proof from the vets who bought these. In fact one of our Melbourne members here has a relative who purchased a JLC WWW - also without mil markings at the end of the war for 5 Quid and was discussed on this forum”.
“There is currently another "Aussie" WWW Omega being offered from a watch dealer in Melbourne which comes with a hand written letter from the former RAAF owner. The owner states that upon his release from a German POW camp, those who had had their time pieces taken from them after being taken into captivity were permitted to buy a replacement for 5 GBP”.
The timelines seem to favour Sept or Oct 1945 which checks out with the end of the war in Japan and the repatriation of Allied POW's back to the UK.
“The Omega extract notes the production of the movement as being 13 August 1945, and this also jibes with the known facts. Unfortunately nothing was noted regarding the lack of markings, only that the Aussie bunch seem to have been lumped in with those 25,000 Omega WWW's which went to the UK”.
“It makes sense that the Australian military would have ordered and taken their requirement from the UK batch or via the Omega distributor in London. It is odd however that the Australian case version has absolutely no markings what so ever, no mil marks or Omega case markings, completely sterile”.
“Considering the higher tariffs placed on imported whole watches prior to the 1960's, it was quite normal to have only ebauches imported and recased into cases which were made for example by Handley in Melbourne. These were quite often sold in better jewellery stores. The same was practiced in Canada with Rolex, and in the USA via Wittnauer, who was the official agent for Longines”.
Even though there is no special mention of the Australian order or the sterile cases, it is pertinent to note that these movements do fall into the 25,000 serial number range ordered by the British MOD.

This watch exhibits NOS dial and hands and looks fabulous on the wrist.

Asking USD$4000 plus potage/ courier. Three day inspection period and Refund if not as described, with the photos forming part of the description.

    Cheers,
    Buster
