Hi All, I found this watch online and wanted to have your opinion on it. The current price of £300. I am very interested in the history of the watch, but I wonder if they are rare or quite common in the market? Best
These are often called British Civil Service India issue watches. My understanding is that they were government issued in the early 1940s to British officers serving in India. Several brands besides Omega were apparently used, including Tissot, Longines, Leonidas, West End, Favre Leuba. Konrad Knirim's books on Military Timepieces shows a few:
I’ve just picked up a similar 2165 off eBay and I love it. I like the history of them. If you don’t mind the smaller size I think they’re a reasonably priced buy.
Would you mind if I ask you how much you paid? I saw one at an Antique dealer and I am not sure if I will be overpaying. The price is £300. I agree I also like the history around it. But it is quite small, when I got my west end which is smaller than the Omega I was a bit surprised.
Looks like a Taubert case. They are quite small, but also interesting in their own right. You can read a bit about them here: http://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/taubert.php http://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/westend.php
Thank you very interesting. Do you think the movement on the west-end watch is original. I have to say it keeps time pretty well!
I paid £210 with shipping, but it was not sold as a 2165(just as an old Omega watch), so I took a chance on assuming that it was. Thankfully it turned out to be what I thought it was.
